XP: Keyboard and mouse won't work after startup. Thread starter Aero7 Start date Feb 14, Status Not open for further replies. I was running several applications and my computer seemed to crash--the screen went blank and I got no response from the mouse or keyboard. Upon restart, neither the keyboard or mouse would work after windows started.
I turned it off and restarted again, going into BIOS and the keyboard worked fine. Upon exiting and continuing startup, again no response from mouse or keyboard. Any ideas? Is that a Compaq Presario notebook or desktop why they made both with the same name is very confusing Is the keyboard and mouse USB?
The other option would be to go into Safe mode repeatively press F8 on system startup. Clarification It's a desktop, and neither the keyboard or mouse are USB. I tried going into Safe Mode, but once the computer starts to boot, it doesn't get any input from the keyboard I can get into BIOS, but nothing beyond that. I tried going to System Recovery, but again I get no input from the keyboard or mouse. A missing registry key caused by an uninstall can cause what you're seeingdid you uninstall any applications just before you the issue started to occur?
Well my computer had a trojan so I was doing malware scans. I uninstalled a program called " FasterFox ", which is a "typing expander" that I never used. I uninstalled a program called "Prevx", which I had just installed to scan for rootkits. And I also cleared my Temp folder. I just did a repair install like you suggested and it got through the first half of the install with no problems, but then once the install booted into Windows for the second part, my keyboard stopped working.
So now instead of being stuck at the login screen Im stuck at the Serial Key screen. That's not happening anymore. I thought I wrote this reply six hours ago I don't think that's an option here. Your repair install should have replace all your keyboard drivers, so it doesn't seem to be a question of what you're missing, so much as what's keeping what's not missing from working properly.
I'd say wait and hope for other options, but a nonfunctional machine makes an ugly paperweight. I don't have any other suggestions to offer short of a reinstall.
